The GS 162-4 speaker system

With the introduction of the Biflex principle - the problem of obtaining full frequency reproduction from a single-cone loudspeaker was now considered solved. Whereas, in the past, it was necessary to provide a compromise between the smaller cone, of minimum weight and diameter, best for high frequency reproduction, and the larger, heavier cone - optimum for bass response - the Altec Biflex loudspeakers utilized the principle of damped mid-cone compliances, wherein the entire area of the speaker cone propagates the low frequencies; the smaller central cone, the high frequencies.

These speaker enclosures were in production during the 60's, 70's and 80's. The grill cloth and loudspeaker changed with availability. I believe we started with the Altec 415C and ended with the Altec 418B. The loudspeakers had a wide range, excellent sound distribution, smooth response and were highly efficient. Power rating: 100 watts, Frequency response: 45Hz to 8000Hz.
